Days 132- 140 The Days in Varanasi Part 1
Day 132 -- 27/03/2009 -- Varanasi
So I said I arrived at half past midnight at Varanasi station. By the time I'm done negotiating and searching for guesthouse, it was 3 am when I arrived at the door of Elvis Guesthouse. It was such a long day but I force myself to go for a ultra hot shower to cleanse myself of the dirt accumulated on the train.
Woke up to a pleasant morning and went upstairs for breakfast, where I met Umberto and Claire. Decide to meet them 3 pm to go to the silk factory , for which I bought two wonderfully woven scarf. I was feeling so tired when my breakfast of cheese pratha came, I didn't have the energy to eat...
Went with U and C again at night to the main ghat for the puja ceremony which was spiritual, but gets boring after awhile since its the same repeating of steps.
We then walk on to a nice German bakery. Claire and me ordered beer, Henry had told me before coming to India to try Kingfisher, for which I did, but didnt really like it. Beer is prohibited in India and so it never appear on the menu. We had to whisper to the attendents that we want beer and it come in cups, not in bottles.
I had started loving Varanasi and texted Henry to make him feel jealous, he retaliated by a facebook msg telling me he is going trekking T_T
Day 133 -- 28/03/2009 -- Varanasi
I was supposed to meet C and U and a polish couple for an early morning boat ride, but things didn't turn out as it was supposed to and I went back to sleep.
Was starting to feel the beginning of a bad diarhoea and I was very much afraid. Went to the Benares Hindi Univeristy to check out on Hindi courses. I was very much interested because I could read the Hindi (and coincidently Nepali ) script very well, so I decided I should go for speaking courses. I vetoed the idea later anyway .
The university was big and I thought I would melt under the acorching sun with my bad stomach. Was in a desperate need of water at some point of time and drop by the canteen.
"Excuse me, can I have 2 coke?"
"Sorry ma'am, no cold drinks allowed in the university."
"Okay , so 1 litre mineral water?"
"Also dun have.."
...I was screaming wtf inside me....
Locals claimed this is the best university in India, wirld ranking just after Cambrigde and Oxford, biggest campus in Asia (I wanted to say i think ZJU is bigger..) , if they have added best canteen in Asia, i will laugh right in their face, honestly...But I met a nice guy, Bhanu . who was a second year finace student in BHU. He seems to know the world of finace as he start telling me about the economy of train rides, the crisis etc. Sorry boy, I would be more interested to listen if your school serves cold drinks..
Went to the rooftop again, was feeling bad so I didn't take any food. Sat for a long time fliiping through newspaper, totally ignoring Federico. I know it was rude, but wasn't in the mood to talk, he must have sensed that too. Anyway we became good friends later. Arranged for boat ride with Ukranian couple and F the next morning.
Day 134 -- 29/03/2009 -- Varanasi
Drag myself out of bed at half past 5 in the morning and got ready to meet other people for a boat ride. It was a refreshing one hour that force all sleepiness out of me. We then went up to the rooftop again for breakfast, for which the Ukranians teased abouth the black coffee being served is not coffee, is just black water. Federico , an Italian, start saying about how much coffee for how much water which was interesting to me. It turned out he is a cook, and is now on holiday.
Went back to sleep after breakfast because of the god- damn stomach. Then I went to nearby Ramnagar fort which houses an interesting museum.
Found F by the computer of our guesthouse when I went back at night and talk him into walking to the main ghat for dinner, for I suspect it was the rooftop's food that cause my stomach problems... He was game enough and brought me to a quiet place, and I gave him the name "Mr Camel" because he just cant stop smoking...
Aiyah getting tired of writing, continue next time
